Tea Party Day Speech
Steven N Babcock
April 15th, 2009
We are gathered here today much like our forefathers gathered on December 16,
1773.
Our ancestors loved their mother country; they loved this new land in which they
lived. They loved that the land on which they lived was afforded many freedoms.
Those freedoms were partly the reason journeys were made across the seas and
many had, at that time, grown up having significant liberties from their rulers.
But the ruling government, in England, over time, began to feel that they needed
to have greater control over the people in the Americas. And the government
began to line its pockets with the great abundance that was offered in this, the
land of our forefathers. Then greed and a determination to control, lead to ever
greater taxation that was heaped upon the backs of the people. All too soon the
burdens, brought on by this taxation, overwhelmed our forefathers, their parents
and grandparents, their wives and their children. They began to choke on the
tyranny and oppression of a once benevolent and reasonably friendly government
leadership. Our Founding Fathers began to get together and to talk. They began
to realize that “Talk is Cheap”. And so came the time to ACT; to leave the
comfort of their homes and ultimately put their very lives up as a ransom for
the love of their God, for the love of their family, and for the love of their
chosen land.
We too, today, find that; over time, our own government has increasingly put
laws, rules, burdens, higher TAXES and now ever higher TAXES in the form of DEBT
upon us our parents, our grandparents, our spouses, our children and now even
our grad and great-grandchildren. We thought they would stop. If only there was
a change. But a change to what?
Our government has decided that they know better than we ourselves what our
families need and what our country needs. Our elected representatives, accepting
a very few, regardless of party affiliation, and unlike our Founding Fathers,
have the arrogance too think they know better what, We the People need, than We
the People. Our government has moved forward with a direction that has been
striping us of the God given freedoms that our Founding Fathers preserved for us
after the sacrifice of, time from their families, sacrifice of their fortunes
and the sacrifice of so much blood.
We have been talking about this for years; in our homes, our places of work,
wherever we gathered. A little vote here and a little vote there but no real
commitment. After all we have our family, we have our own life, we HAD our
freedoms and liberties. We too have found that “Talk is Cheap”. And so NOW, as
it was on December 16th 1773; we have been left no choice: THE TIME HAS COME,
FOR US TO ACT, and to CONTINUE to ACT.
The time has come to leave the comfort of our homes, to sacrifice our time, and
to “mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred
Honor.” to bring back, to this great nation, the LOVE OF OUR GOD, the LOVE OF
OUR FAMILY, the LOVE OF OUR COUNTRY and to bring back THE CONSTITUTION and BILL
OF RIGHTS as the law of the land.
Our Founding Fathers, learned from history, what happens to all democracies and
republics over time. But more importantly they were a God fearing group, that
sought God’s help and God’s advice and so the Founding Fathers gave us warning;
if We the People, do not live by principles and values our freedoms will not
last, cannot last, nor do we deserve to have freedom last.
Glenn Beck, one of America 's leading radio and television personalities,
initiated The 9-12 Project, A project that says; we want to be like the people
we were on the day following 9-11. The country was joined together, we were all
patriots, we were united under a common cause. We were not conservative;
moderate or liberal; we were not Democrat, Republican or any party; we were
Americans. We can be that way again; but we must join together under the banner
of the Constitution and Bill of Rights, we must live by the principles and
values found in the words of the Founding Fathers and put forth by The 9-12
Project. We invite you to join with us; for a forum to present your ideas and
move forward with your plans of action; as they are in tune with the principles
and values of our Founding Fathers. Find out what we are about, pick up
information at the table located (point our location).
In closing:
There was, in a grand nation of freedom, a great General. He lived by and taught
principles and values. His armies recently won a war against a foreign enemy. He
and his armies returned to their homes to live in peace; but dissenters from
within gathered to destroy the foundation of liberty.
This great General seeing the – “enemies… domestic”, and he having bought
freedom and liberty with much of his countrymen’s blood, tore up his coat,
placed it on a stick, wrote on it, making it a banner that he called the “Title
of Liberty”.
He marched waving the “Title of Liberty” throughout the land; and the people
that cherished freedom grew strong together; and so the dissenters fled the
country.
What did the Commander of the armies write on the “Title of Liberty”? He wrote:
“In memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and
our children”
MAY WE each take up OUR “Title of Liberty”!
MAY WE gather others under the banner of PRINCIPLES and VALUES!
MAY WE move forward with COURAGE and HARD WORK!
MAY WE defend OUR God, OUR families and OUR children!
MAY WE defend the CONSTITUTION of THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!
MAY WE carry the day!
Come join with us at The 9-12 Project, add your numbers with ours.
WE WILL BE HEARD!
WE WILL RAISE OUR “Title of Liberty”!
WE WILL CARRY THE DAY! |
